Austria Records Research

My maternal great-grandparents, Anna Zimmerman (Zimmerman-5735) and Samuel Feder, (Feder-117) were both born in Austria.

Can anyone point me in the direction of the best resources to access more records in Austria so that I might learn more about my maternal great-grands?

Much appreciated,
Cindy (Yager-896)

Cindy, is your family Jewish? If so, you should use Jewishgen.org for records.

Thank you, George, for you quick reply to my query!

Thanks, Jessica - yes, my family is Jewish, and I was not aware of Jewishgen.org.

I'm amazed at the helpfulness I find here at wikitree!  So glad to be here!

Your family's names are just ambiguous enough that I was wondering. For genealogical purposes, it's important because (as helpful as George's answer was!) your family was unlikely to appear in many Catholic records. cheeky

GenTeam is still worth looking at as there are some Jewish indices there.

This is the best site for Austrian Catholic Church records. It is organized by Diocese, and is free. https://data.matricula-online.eu/en/oesterreich/

Also joining GenTeam can be very helpful. There are numerous indexes and a gazetteer of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. membership is required, but it is free. https://www.genteam.at/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=33&Itemid=47&lang=en
