Ansel Atkins needs parents

This is my first time reaching out for help. Normally when I hit a brick wall I just focus on another part of my tree for awhile but I thought I would throw this into the ether.

I have been unable to locate through records Ansel's (Atkins-3229) parents. I have a suspicion that his father is Russell Freeman Atkins who was born in Hallowell, Maine in 1804 to parents Ancil Atkins and Betsey Lovell. This would mean that he was named after his grandfather and that his son James Russell would have received his middle name from his father which makes sense. There is a William R Atkins born in 1822 who has marriage records in the same town (Topsham) around the same time as Ansel and his death record lists a father as Russell Atkins; which would make William and Ansel brothers.

This is all just speculation as I have been unable to conclusively link Ansel to any parents.

I haven't yet created profiles for Russell, William, Ancil or Betsey here on Wikitree yet but if you would like to peruse them on Family Search with their various records attached they can be found here: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/landscape/L7PV-HS7

Leilani, I've also been in this situation and when likely parents are known, I add them to the profile.  And most of the time a records pops up that is a source for the relationship.  The worst that happens is you may end up without a source and have to disconnect the parents along with a message about the situation.

I agree with Jo.  If you have a "feeling" that you know the parents, add them.  But create a == Research Notes == section in the biography to explain your doubt and reasoning as above.  This gives you a place holder for further research.  If you later find that your speculation was wrong, no harm done. You then update your research note (so others know where you started and why you changed) and can detach the incorrect parent/attach the correct.
