New member introducing myself

Question

I'm new here and just saying HI to introduce myself.  I haven't done genealogy in about 20 years because I had a baby and got sidetracked/busy with life.  Now the baby is grown and I love what I see genealogy-wise on the Internet!  Some of the family names that I'm researching are Preston, Swope, Utterback, Sweney, McCurdy, Hess and Hemry.

There are 6,252 with the Preston surname listed at WikiTree

Swope has 919, Utterback 530, Sweeney 3,400, McCurdy 1,435, Hess 5,431 and Hemry 83.

If you click on Find at the top right of the page, it will open a menu that includes Surnames. If you have first names to go with the surnames and a birth year, that would help narrow the search.

I love WikiTree for so many reasons: the philosophy that we are all part of the same, huge family tree, the agreement to work together on our tree, the emphasis on sources (and excellent sources), and the community - especially the community.

If I had one word of advice, knowing you did not ask for any, but giving it anyway (humbly), it would be to read.  Read this G2G, and especially read the help section.  There's a lot to WikiTree, which makes it flexible, and can also seem complicated. Take your time, ask questions, and have fun.
