Thanks for sending me your info. I did a one-on-one with Gedmatch and came up dry ... no matches.

Hi Joe!

I'm Richard Hay (Hay-1332). I tested with the National Genographic Project (National Geographics DNA testing project) and with Family Tree DNA (FTDNA).  I've been confimed as R-U106.

Recently, The International Society of Genetic Genealogy (ISOGG) has added subclades to R-U106; and I tested postive for one of them. These guys are the go to source for genetic genealogy. Since then, I have done further testing.

You may wish to transfer your results to FTDNA to access an additional source of genetic genealogy infomation (more possible genetic matches).  You can transfer your genetic results from 23 and Me to FTDNA for FREE.  However, there are some limits to what will be available to you.  There is a small upcharge for the full services.

For more on the information I am using, please visit these reference links:

Hi Richard, (BTW that's also my son's name) I checked into downloading to FTDNA, and was told they can't work with the latest version of raw data from 23andme (V4). That sounds to me like one or both companies decided they don't want the consumer to get all this extra analysis for free. I'm sure they're smart enough to make it work. I had no trouble uploading to Gedmatch.com and got more matches in addition to the ones from 23andme. I'd like to get other tests done ... maybe Santa Clause will help me ... I've been good. :)
Hi Joe, Richard is a good name; looks like you and my parents have great minds! Sorry to hear about the issues with FTDNA. I hope they update their process and are able to help you real soon. Good luck! Richard

Hi Joe,  There is a Hay DNA Project on FamilyTreeDNA:   https://www.familytreedna.com/public/hay  I suggest that you purchase a yDNA 37 marker test from FTDNA while they are on sale this month.  You can then join the GFR and WikiTree DNA Project and the Hay DNA Projects on FTDNA, as well as any other projects that might help your research.

Please use this link if you wish to purchase any FTDNA test kits so that you are automoatically joined to the GFR and WikiTree project and so that WikiTree gets the acknowledgement for your purchase.  https://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?&group=WikiTreecomDNAProjec&vGroup=wikitree

Would you like to join our WikiTree DNA Project?  http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:DNA  Is so, please let me know!  Kitty

Hi Joe. My fifth g grandfather was David Hay of Middlesex county, New Jersey. I did the autosomal DNA test on Ancestry.com. My kit on gedmatch is A828527. Various descendants have the surnames Hays or Hayes -- I don't think Hay survives among descendants -- but I may be mistaken. I'm curious to know whether we match on gedmatch.

Hello:  My name is Laurie (Hay) Robinson.  I am the daughter of one David Edward Hay born in 1919 in Winton, Ca.  and the grand-daughter of one Henry Proctor Hay born about 1875 in Glasgow or Edinburgh Scotland.  I recently had my paternal first cousin (male) tested at familytreedna  as he is the last known male Hay relative on my family tree.  His y-dna Haplogroup is I1a also known as I-M253.  I am having further clade testing run currently.

Any other Hay men with I-M253 Y-dna?

<!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}-->Hey Hay! (sorry I couldn't help myself). As someone who's been trying to piece together his own family tree, I stumbled across this thread. This is completely unrelated, but I believe it will help your efforts. Testing at more than one DNA company to get a range of results is a great way to obtain a comprehensive idea of one's lineage. I believe that this would be beneficial for your efforts. Here is a fantastic website that reviews and compares kits in the market and offers great deals on the- https://www.dnatestreview.org/.
