Meet our Members: Chandra Garrow

Hi WikiTreers!

500px-Meet_our_Members_Photos-13.jpgIt's time to meet another one of our Wonderful WikiTreers!  This week's member is Chandra Garrow.

What are some of the surnames you are researching?

For my paternal family I'm researching Garrow, Gauthier, Schramm, and Kannenberg.

For my maternal family I'm researching Dodge, Steies (or Sties), Fregin, Simpson, Kidd, and Newman.

What are some of the locations you are researching?

Lately I've really been looking into Ireland. I've also been researching Germany (Prussia) and England.

When and how did you get interested in genealogy and family history?

My Mom is a really big part of my interest in Genealogy. She's the one who got started on the family tree, everything I've done wouldn't have been possible without the work she did.

Who's your favorite ancestor and why?

I have so many ancestors that are so interesting, but I'd have to say my 3rd Great Grandfather, Arthur Simpson, is my favorite. He was a Civil War Vet who had a lot of struggles with his mental health. I think he's one of the ancestors I really relate to the most.

Tell us about a brick wall you were able to break down or one you hope to bust through.

I would really like to find out more about my 3rd Great Grandmother, Jane Newman.

She's been a massive brick wall for years. We know nothing about her early life and family (parents, grandparents, etc.).

What are some of your interests outside of genealogy?

I love reading, mainly fantasy and historical fiction. I just finished reading "The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane", and have "Wolf Hall" on hold.

How long have you been on WikiTree and what do you spend the most time doing?

I've been on WikiTree since June of 2019. I started out just working on my own Genealogy, but have really branched out since then. I'm a member of the Greeters Project. I'm also part of the Wisconsin Project, where I've been adding County pages and profiles for some local people. I've also started a Name Study for the "Steies" surname.

What brought you to WikiTree?

I was told about WikiTree by a distant Cousin, Robynne Lozier. We got into contact while researching our "Stephens" family connections, and she gave me a link.

What is your favorite thing about WikiTree?

My favorite thing about WikiTree are the Relationship and Connection finders.

What is an example of how WikiTree has helped you with your genealogy or how you’ve helped genealogy with WikiTree?

WikiTree has really helped me learn more about sourcing, and the importance of collaboration.

Any tips for someone just starting out on WikiTree?

Don't be afraid to ask questions. There is no such thing as a stupid question, and everyone starts out as a beginner.

Congratulations!! I enjoyed reading about you. We are 10th cousins once removed.

For the record, Chandra and I are 6th cousins - as she said through our Stephens line -  both of which are through our mothers!!

Congratulations on your making of Member of the Week and for representing Wisconsin! I am the creator of the Sauk County page and would like to interact with other members working on their part(s) of the state.

Hi Steven!

I took a look at your Sauk County page. So well done and very detailed! Thanks to your page I actually learned someting about my 3rd Great Grand Uncle, Lyman Clark I didn't know. Other family members had told me he was a fairly well known innkeeper, but I didn't know there was a street in Baraboo named for him! Thanks for the info!
