Can someone else edit my family tree?

There is much you can do.

The sources can be improved:

  • “First hand knowledge” is not appropriate for events that happened before you were born.
  • Personal interviews can be sources as well, but these are subject to the limitations of the memory of the person you are talking with. You could cite them as “As told to [your name] by [interviewee’s name] on [date].”
  • “United States Census” is too generic. At a minimum you need to site the year, and specific location from the header of the census.
  • If you cite a book, give author, title, publisher, place, year published and specific pages.
  • If you are citing county records, eg, Wills, you can give the authority (X county, state), record type, subject, volume, year, page. If the record has a document or file number, provide that as well.

The website Evidence Explained can provide examples and guidance. See https://www.evidenceexplained.com/

Any open profile can be edited by any person who has signed the Honor Code, with the exception of the last name at birth, which can only be edited by someone on the trusted list. All other profiles can only be edited by someone on the trusted list.

Wikitree does not have individual trees. It is one large tree shared by everyone.

Yes, as there is no such thing as 'my family tree' here on WikiTree. On other sites you can create your own family tree, which results in many many duplicates of the same people and disagreements between the different versions of trees. The fun thing here is that we all work together on the real historical connections.
