Linking A LOT of people to Charlemagne through one source

Hi everyone,

While doing research I came upon this source. I do not think it is a great source for the pre-1500 profiles for which it could be really usefull if it is actually correct about everything, but I think it has an high change of being correct.

I do not have the power yet to work on pre-1500 profiles. But through this enormous family tree I could link myself (actually one of my ancestors already on Wikitree) to Charlemagne! (I still cannot do this on Wikitree because a couple of generations are missing/not connected between a descendant of Charlemagne and my ancestor. :( ) If this source turns out to be true, I think way more people will be able to do that. This source also goes even farther back than Charlemagne and can probably go back even father than it goes now.

I think y'all can do a lot with it.

Kind regards Tiko

Charlemagne had so many children also, I saw somewhere that if you are living in Europe or have ancestry from Europe, the likelihood is very high that you are related to Charlemagne somehow. Similarly for Asia and Genghis Khan. Its all one tree, but some folks have an outsize influence on that, and those people tend to be the wealthy and especially those with large families (because they are more likely to be in the records, they live longer, they have a better chance of more children living to have their own families, etc.)

Pre-1500 profiles have very strict rules on sources. Trees are not okay but If they have actual sources, then that is what should be cited.

Hi Tiko,

Congratulations on making this find.  My suggestion for you would be to continue your research and see if you can find some source documents or books (of a scholarly level) that can support this lineage.  Unfortunatley, for every legitimate (sourced) tree, there are a 100 that are made at the whim of amateur genealogists - and many are just flat wrong.

I would keep digging and see if you can find some legitimate sources to make the connection.  If you can find some, please let us know and we will help you to update the profile(s).

good luck in your search!

I think the answer is in the source list. Webtrees has the possibility to create the list of sources in the Gedcom.

You see this page of this website here:

https://drxn.nl/webtrees/sourcelist.php?ged=Derksen

(if you do not want to click,.. it is empty).

I would suggest search at one of the largest share for Dutch Gedcoms that actually tries to link sources and link names found in other Gedcoms: https://www.genealogieonline.nl/

A list with Dutch acceptable sources can be found in the Dutch Roots portal.
