Fears concerning inability to backup everything including photos

It is a lot of work to put in all the information, photos, etc. What worries me is that some day, far in the future, what happens if Wikitree no longer exists? With a Gedcom file backup I do not get the photos and links to them included. What do others do to about this?

I could use Legacy or some other program to ensure everything is kept intact, but then I cannot sync that to Wikitree and have all the photos also synced. So, I would have to do the same thing twice, which is a lot of extra work.

If I were planning on permanently backing up my WikiTree family I would print it out and mount it in a book.  I have no expectations that digital copiess (flash drives, internet, DVDs) will be usable indefinately.

WikiTree's hopes are to last as long as possible, but centuries? who knows.

Archivists will tell you (as they did me) that the best medium for preservation of information is paper.  Keep it from getting wet and out of the sun and it will last a long time -- and always be available for scanning or otherwise being copied into whatever the newest medium is.  It seems that CD rot from the edges, magnetic tape and drives are subject to erasure by magnets, etc.  At our church this summer we opened a time capsule from 25 years ago:  out came papers of various sorts and photos for all to see, and a VHS tape of a special service no one could watch.

You can safe all your code to Note Pad, and store them in a folder on your desktop.
