Mary Ascroft can not find any record in last name

+6 votes

In the Sheffield 1861 census I have found that Mary's mothers name is Ann Ascroft not Oscroft as previously recorded so I have been researching but to no end Mary's record I have found a record of christening dated 22 June 1826 with farther's name William Ashcroft (note the H) in the name but not in the 1861 census mothers name is Ann Ascroft. I can not find records of marriage to Hatfield-4067 or any other information. Secondly I was following the linage of Mary's parents of William Oscroft Oscroft-4 and his wife Sophia Shenter-1 but this could be the wrong linages the name is similar but not the same .So could anyone help try to sort this out.  I do realise that the spelling is from the person filling out the census and how that person spelt things as most people in 1800 didn't have schooling and singed with a mark or x

The births of her children were both registered with a mother's maiden name of Oscroft so I'd take that as the primary spelling.

The following is the information (via Ancestry Sharable Link) I had located that looks like the Marriage Record for the two individuals.

England & Wales, Civil Registration Marriage Index, 1837-1915:

Name:     Mary Ann Oscroft
Spouse: Edward Hadfield
Registration Year:     1847
Registration Quarter:     Jan-Feb-Mar
Registration District:     Sheffield
Inferred County:     Yorkshire West Riding
Volume:     22
Page:     433

I hope this was helpful for you... :-)
