Stuck in a merging loop

Question

I am trying to merge 2 duplicate profiles - Norwood-32 and Norwood-462. I have adopted them both but when I get part way through the process I get this message: The merge of Roger Norwood (Norwood-462) and Roger Norwood (Norwood-32) is already in progress by another user. If it is not completed in five minutes, you can complete it.

No merges show on either profile - either pending, rejected or completed so I am not sure what is going on. I tried to merge them several months ago too but got a similar outcome! Help please :-)

Since you manage both profiles. I reproposed the merge. Can you try again?

Thanks Isabelle. The new proposal is showing but when I go to merge I am getting the same message as before.

Hi Elizabeth,

This happens sometimes. The solution seems to be to switch to an Unmerged Match or Rejected Match and repropose the merge. Unfortunately if you do not manage the profiles, this means another round of waiting until the merge is approved or default-approved.

EDIT - this should not be a problem since you manage both profiles in this instance. You can also request the help of a project leader if the profiles are more than 200 years old.

I've now set that proposal to unmerged match and then removed any connection between the two, to see if that will work.
