Help with Brick Wall

I can not figure out who James Stults' father was... please any help would be greatly appreciated

Been looking on Ancestry and found nothing for birth in states you suggested.

Born about 1798. He lived most of his life in Roane, Rhea and Jackson County Tennessee and passed away between 1870 and 1880 in Jackson County, Tennessee.

Research Notes

1. All records from when James was alive and most likely giving the record keeper his own information, records of James say he was born in Virginia. Then on all of the death records of his children I have found say that their father James was born in North Carolina.
2. I have had no success in finding neither a birth or death record for neither James nor his wife Fannie. (Jackson County Tennessee is also a burned county)
