uploading sources

In terms of style, am I better to upload scans of sources as pdfs or as images? PDF's seems to show the Acrobat Icon as the profile photo which looks garish.

It depends on where the scans are coming from, for copyright reasons.  Find a grave should have permission from the person that took the picture and it should be stated with the image. Hopefully, you are putting the source citation, not just an image on a profile, because the source citation is more important.

Thanks, Linda.  The sources are referenced.  However I have just read the sites usage rules again, and they are different to how I first misread them. "www.irishgenealogy.ie is a government website owned, operated and managed by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht (hereinafter referred to as “the Department”). The contents of this site may be freely accessed and downloaded for personal use or professional family history research. However, any form of unauthorised reproduction, including the extraction and/or storage in any retrieval system or inclusion in any other computer programme or work is prohibited."  I had misread it as being usable by Wikitree under the highlighted part, but the second sentence seems to preclude that.

I will remove the images now.

Include a link to find the image is great.  Include as much information that you see in the image in the profile, with the source citation.  The Stynes-16 profile doesn't have any links to the site you mentioned

For the Irish genealogy sites (church and civil), if there is an image, I usually note that it opens a pdf and requires a login, but is free.  I may or may not save a copy of the pdf for my own files, depending on how related to, or invested in, the family I am.

I do the same thing with the UK wills search - take a copy of the page for the probate notice so I can transcribe it at my leisure. smiley
