I entered the mother after I had entered father and son, she doesn't show as Mother?

I figured out loading in her ID, but why did this happen?

At the bottom of a create person page there is usually a check box (very easily missed) to say if the new profile is spouse/parent/child of the existing profiles listed there.

You really have to know it is there, or you do miss it.  (And even those of us who know, still sometimes forget to look to see if it is marked as off, or on.)

When you add a wife to husband, down the bottom of page is a bit that says x is child of husband check box if also child of wife. If you miss it, then they won’t be joined

But you can then add the connection manually!
