DAR Sticker - New NSDAR Guidelines re: National Numbers

The NSDAR recently changed its rules about posting ancestor numbers on social media. Could we now have a DAR Sticker?

Via the DAR support FB page:

The President General has approved the sharing of Ancestor Numbers with the public!

We can now add Ancestor Numbers on public websites and social media platforms, including online family trees. Why is that helpful?

Providing the Ancestor Number with the ancestor name may assist PMs identify the correct patriot in the GRS, especially when there are several patriots that share the same name. We also hope it will get more people to visit our site and encourage women to join!

Has the DAR changed it’s policy on the use of it’s logo? I have had some actual stickers posted to profiles I manage where the DAR template is in use and the DAR logo now appears as an actual sticker but my understanding is that the logo is protected by DAR and can not be used. Has that changed recently?

The post https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1141771/calling-all-dar-daughters indicates that the sticker is fully approved for our use.

Thank you for this information, Barbara.  I don't use Facebook, so I would have missed it.

This is from a DAR members website (CitingDARSources.pdf).  The document is entitled "Citing, Quoting, and Reproducing DAR Sources" from 2016.

As far as citing the Genealogical Research System, it says:

Citation for the GRS Database For the Ancestor Record: Daughters of the American Revolution, “Ancestor Database.” database, Genealogical Research System (http://services.dar.org/public/dar_research/ : accessed [date]), [ancestor name, ancestor number].

Fictitious example: Daughters of the American Revolution, “Ancestor Database.” database, Genealogical Research System (http://services.dar.org/public/dar_research/ : accessed 1 January 2015), John Smith, A555555.

The Recently updated NSDAR Online Guidelines (Sept. 2020):

5. GRS Information - Under no circumstances should national numbers or GRS information be shared on a public page. This is NSDAR proprietary information. DAR Ancestor Numbers are exempt from this policy.

There is a current discussion about the use of the existing template

Barbara, can you help to clarify if anything needs to be changed with the existing information.

We now have a DAR sticker to use. Please see this post. I hope you will join me in adding them to our patriotic ancestors!

Awesome! I'll add a bunch of stickers to my Mom's family. My grandmother would have been proud. She had 3 daughters and got each one into the DAR with a different patriot - just for fun! I miss her.

What a great idea, Barbara!! I have five daughters, hmmm.... I guess I have a new goal now laugh

Pls. Give me some guidance on this. There are 3 Stickers/Templates:

{{Society Member | society=DAR | living=no}}

{{Society Ancestor | society=DAR | ancestor=A074787}}

{{DAR-grs | A074787 | Ebenezer Mason | 2 DEC 2020}}

For Stickers: the Ancestor number is used on the Ancestor's Profile and not the Member's Profile but the template with the Ancestor info can be used on the Member's Profile.

Yes?

So for my grandmother with multiple Patriots, I'll put one Sticker and then multiple templates.

Correct?

Babs, the middle one is the one I use, it's DAR approved for Ancestor number.

I also use {{1776 Sticker|unit= Patriot Service}} for those who have that.

And for specific services {{1776 Sticker|rank= LIEUTENANT |unit=VA,1) ALSO ENS UNDER CAPT LUCAS; 2) 2ND LT MONTGOMERY CO MILITIA}}

 Changing the service as needed. And I place them on that 1776er's profile.
