Is real estate conveyancer (1940, Hawaii) the same as title agent today?

I see in different countries and different times this job had different requirements. This is from a 1940 Hawaii census, the individual was previously a clerk and stenographer, certainly not a lawyer.

I am imagining this was a job where you sat in the office and shuffled papers to finalize the sales the field agents brought in? Is this different from what a title agent does?
