Paul Nehemiah Simpier was born Born September 8, 1820 in L’Assomption, Bas-Canada. The son of Amable (Champoux) Champoux dit Semper (1788 - 1859)  and Marie Julie Robichaud (1799 - 1836). The brother of Civil War Veteran of the 81st N.Y. Joseph Simpier (1832 - 1912). Paul married Marie Sophie (Brodeur) Champoux dit Semper (1821)  October 27, 1840 (we also need her date and location of death).

We need some help with adding more sources and specifically a date of death and burial location. French group help needed.

We don’t know if he had other siblings; did his mother only have the two boys? She died young

Thank you

I think these are your people in Chicago in the 1880 census.  Ancestry has transcribed the name as Sunpier but it looks like Simpier to me.  Family consists of George (23), his mother Sophie (60), Angeline (15) and his father whose name is hard to decipher but clearly begins with 'N' and might be Namos.

Looks like an entry on Find-a-Grave has a Sophie Simpier 1820-1908.  It says her maiden name was Brothers which might be close enough to Brodeur.  It says her husband was  Amos though.    https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/203900684/amos-simpier

However the list of her children (Alphonse b. 1851, George b. 1857, Mary and Armine b. 1860) looks interesting.  Did you notice on the 1870 census higher up the page from Nehemiah and Sophie and their children George (13) and Philomene (13), there is a 30-year-old shoemaker Joseph Simpier and a 19 -year-old shop shop worker Alphonse Simpier (19)?

Definitely related. Trying to understand the connection. Thank you for this link smiley

I would start by investigating if Amos could be Nèhemie.  Given the pronounciation, I could easily imagine Nèhemie being 'Americanized' as Amos.  This happened regularly.  In my family tree, Chartier from Quebec became Sharkey once they had lived in Massachusetts for a while.

a quick search supports my comment above.

Jean-Baptiste Napoléon Semper, son of Néhmias Semper and Sophie Brodeur, was baptized 27 March 1846 in Beauharnois, Québec.  https://www.ancestry.ca/imageviewer/collections/1091/images/d13p_02010009?treeid=&personid=&hintid=&queryId=2b03e3a9e690f12ff2e1eb929eb28e68&usePUB=true&_phsrc=wre7420&_phstart=successSource&usePUBJs=true&pId=1967717

In 1870 he and his wife Justine were living next to his parents in New York.  They are found in later censuses in Pennsylvania.

On the death certificate of Napoléon Simpier, widower of Justine, who died in Potter PA in 1936, his father is identified as Amos Simpier.

So I think you need to Check the death certificate of Amos Simpier who died in Chicago in 1884

Amos is used in the family. Joseph his brother has a son Joseph Amos Jr. died in logging accident. See Joseph Amos Simpier Jr (1871 - 1901)

hi Andrew, for death in USA, sorry can't help you.

As far as his parents and how many children they had, in Drouin collection I find 8 baptisms and 4 funerals for the children, only one marriage here, that of Néhénnie (sic).  His mother died at around age 36 per the record, and the last child she had died a few weeks before her at a year of age.

So many of the women died young on my paternal side which makes it difficult. Thank you smiley
