Australian Politicians

Some of the Australian Project team are reviewing the categories for Australian Politicians which falls under Australia, Notables.  This work was started last year and has been in a hiatus awaiting comments.  We are now picking up where that left off.  See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Australian_Notables for the section under Australia, Politicians.

Australia, Politicians is a top level category and should not have any profiles in it.  It is a subcategory of [Australia, Notables], [Australia, Occupations and Professions], [Australia, Political History] and [Oceania, Politicians]

Australia, Politicians will have three subcategories which are top level categories that should not have profiles attached. They are [Australia, Federal Politicians], [Australia, State Politicians] and [Australia, Local Government Councillors]

These first two subcategories are then subdivided by House, eg [Australia, Members of the House of Representatives] or [Western Australia, Senators].  See the Australian Notables space above for details.

It’s quite complex.

For Local Government it is simply the State/Territory, Locality Councillors.

Yay!  yes

(needs more characters)

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hamer-447 probably needs some categories added to his profile. it does not even mention he was Premier of Victoria
It does now, but still needs more work on this profile.
We need to make use of the succession boxes.
Thanks Deborah for raising this issue again. There is probably an argument for having politicians as a separate set of categories altogether to Notables, for a whole range of reasons, including that not all politicians are necessarily going to meet the Wikitree/wikipedia criteria for 'notability'. Looking around the related categories under Category:Australia, it looks like some work is needed to clarify a structure/hierarchy for categories for politicians for further discussion and consideration. If a politician is also notable, then they could have a separate Notable category added to their profile in addition to the relevant politician category.... or am I missing something?
