Is there a list of all the Wiki mark-up (or formatting) language for easy access as one enters their text areas?

I spent long time today trying to get a image link to open in a new/blank page. Long story short, it is not possible with the current MediaWiki version that is used by Wikitree. If they upgrade to the current version, then this feature will be supported. Anyway, here is the code that I used for an image link:

Most tags used on Wikipedia can be used on WikiTree, but there are some exceptions.

If you're looking for something different maybe we could add it to WikiTree.

an easy way to get something like [[Noland-165|Noland]] to open in a new window or tab?  I couldn't find any way to do it, and I'd rather not have to turn off Wiki and do html coding for it.  It seems the [merge], etc. options on matches do this, but I couldn't find the source code that made it happen.

As I've grown to love WikiTree, I've gotten used to the way things are done and I do believe it is for the better.
As I've build my family tree, I may reference a page in my family history book. If the link is used, I then give them the option of using the back key to return to the family or member, or use a link I provided to go up 1 level in the book.
Unfortunately if they choose the latter, they must navigate through the family tree to return to the person they were viewing.

It would be nice to have a floating panel above the bio field with the more than basic formatting, like bold and Italic.
Something like TinyMCE would be great where you can add tabs and tables.

I'd like to second your idea, Martyn. Tables would be very helpful for some profiles that I'm thinking of and the applications in Free-space editing abound.

That's probably not a decision you should be making for readers of your profile. In most browsers, the user can hold Command or Ctrl to force a link to open in a new tab.

I use the Right Mouse Button (context menu) to open in a new tab or window. All the browsers have this functionality. Sorry Mac users.

Hi Bob - thanks and yup, I know I can, but I forget. And in answer to Marnen, I never considered that others might be annoyed for me "making that decision" .... thanks for raising my awareness.  But I really wanted to do it for me, because I forget to right-click & was clicking away from profiles when checking the links in preview - and losing all my changes.  I've since changed my own habits and also the few times I accidently clicked away recently I was able to go back & the new changes were still there.  Cheers, Liz

Haha last time I used a Mac there was only a single button on the mouse and you had to use the cloverleaf looking key to simulate the context menu. I guess things have changed since the Apple IIe.

Inaccurate. The Control key, not the Command key, does that. And it's been that way for as long as I can recall the feature existing (since the 1990s, when the OS really *did* only support one mouse button).

WikiTree markup seems to be very close to MediaWiki markup. I use an open-source program (PanDoc) to convert Markdown (which I know well) to MediaWiki and then just paste the output into a biography window. It does not always look the way I expected, but then just a few manual edits suffice.
