This month’s Bio Builders Challenge theme is Veterans of any conflict.

Thank you for your support.

Here's our checklist:

Data Section:

  • birth date/place
  • names of parents
  • marriage date/place and spouse name
  • names of children, if any
  • death date/place

Biography Section:

  • Written (full) sentences stating the facts above, adding inline sources to each fact.
  • Is the profile '''Genealogically Defined?'''
  • As a general rule biographies should be in your own words. Paraphrase and rewrite, don't copy/paste.
  • Baptism, burial, military, and other life events with inline sources.
  • Something to "humanize" the person, such as career or avocation with sources.
  • List of children with at least one pertinent fact.
  • Some list siblings. (I think this takes up real estate.)
  • Explanatory remarks, if needed (e.g. disputed persons information, Research Notes, whatever needs extra explaining).
  • Photos or pictures, background. Not a must, but nice (you need to own the copyright unless they are in the public domain).
  • Categories.
  • Connection to the Global Tree.
  • All duplicates merged or initiated.
  • Links to persons and events, perhaps from Wikipedia.
  • Historical context as related to the person's life.
  • Sources, Sources, Sources.

You can see some ideas on where to find some of this information on the Biography Builders space page.

Use "comments" below to ask questions.

NOTE: Biography Builders will not show on the tracker. Please add a list to your answer.

This challenge really brings home the sacrifice our relatives and ancestors made.  I find that I am crying over cousins loss a century before I was born.  Yet am blessed that I can honor them by remembering them and sharing what I have learned about them.  Thank you for such a heart-wrenching but blessed filled challenge.

Hopefully I should be able to find a couple that I haven't already sourced to death.

Did they have to actually serve in the forces? My grandad was in the merchant navy in WW2 supporting the war effort, and my gran was working in the munitions factory at Woolwich. My great grandfather also worked in the munitions store in WW1.
by Michelle Wilkes G2G6 Pilot (169k points)
Merchant Marine definitely counts as service, so does any job that contributed directly to the war effort (munitions, aircraft factory, shipbuilding, etc.).

#1) Horace Alfred Smith served in the Royal Sussex Regiment, in India during the Tirah Campaign (1897-1898)

#2) William Frederick Phillpott served over 21 years in the Rifle Brigade of the 10th Royal Hussars, in Afghan Campaign from (1878-1879)

I'll see who I can find, but there won't be many because all the close WWII relatives have already been done on other challenges. I think I'll find a few in the branch that emigrated to Australia. Can we include those who died in conflicts?
by Christine Frost G2G6 Pilot (152k points)
Dying in a conflict definitely qualifies.
Thank you, that gives me more scope. I'll be busy this week but hope to add some next week

Oh wow! I have many members of my family in the military in every conflict going all the way back to the Revolutionary War. My husband does, too! So, I'll be busy this month :)

I'll add what I get done here.

1. Elmer Hugh Corbin, Sr. (1893 - 1964) WWI

2. Jessie Lee Hood (1895 - 1967) WWI

3. Robert Austin Hood (1845 - 1862) Civil War (Confederacy)

4. John Wilson Hood (1846 - 1902) Civil War (Union)

Please let me know if any profile I add isn't genealogically defined, this is my first time doing it and I'm not sure if I'm doing it right.

How do I become an official bio builder? I just came from visiting the cemetery and researched a few ancestors that I did not know were veterans. I will try to flesh them out, or at least work on one before the end of the month.

Francis V Dangler was my Husband’s Great Uncle.  He was a WWII vet that my husband does not remember.

Nancy, All you have to do is answer the posting, and edit your answer to add the qualifying profiles. We don’t have a badge, but you get a sticker for reaching a milestone for bios written.
