Download family trees for academic research

Hi,

I'm an information science student, and I want to work on GEDCOM files.

I'm trying to find as many GEDCOM files as I can for my research.

Is there any way to download GEDCOM files from wikitree (or any other source) for my research?

Of course, no personal \ specific information will be published, only statistics about the files.

Best,

Omri

Are you specifically wanting to use GEDCOMs, or are you more looking for family tree data? Because you can get a dump of the entire public tree for research purposes.

On the other hand, if Omri is interested in working with GEDCOM-formatted files, WikiTree members might be willing to contribute a variety of GEDCOMs created from WikiTree data and other sources.
Yes, I'm looking to work with GEDCOM files and investigate the format and what people actually put in it.

I was hoping that WikiTree store GEDCOM files users uploading and use them in my academic research.
We temporarily store GEDCOMs that people upload so they can use them to create profiles on WikiTree. But we can't give those uploaded GEDCOMs to anyone for privacy reasons.

If you want some GEDCOM files generated by WikiTree, you can download them here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:DownloadGedcom.
