Does anyone know what historical category or group Daniel Boone should be part of?  His profile has a HSA and I agree it should but no categories and about one million merge potentials.Should we have a Historic Category for American Frontier Heroes?  Maybe include Davy Crocket, Sam Houston, Wyatt Earp.. Jessie James..  etc...  Batt Masterson Annie Oakley, Lewis and Clark?

As a side point my feeling is that a HSA shouldn't be given to a profile until it has been factually checked.  I keep thinking of a 5th grader somewhere doing a report on Daniel Boone and and claiming he had three sisters named Elizabeth Boone-34

I don't suppose Paul Bunyan would fit in that category......
Hi Ed & All,

I kind of like something related to the time period.

How about 19th Century American Frontier Explorers?

Sandi
Would a user group for Historically Significant Persons help? People of note would fall into this category along with Presidents, Generals etc.
I think a user group is a good idea.  Their job would be just to set some guidelines.  It would help people who think their aunt sally should be historically significant.    One of the things that has really helped the presidential group is the little navigator at the top of the page.  First off it helps the group that is doing the editing but also once someone lands on a president it really encourages them to check out more.  If somone wants to consider the Jesse James gang is historically significant they appeal to the users group and get approved or denied.

Good.
Wikipedia lists Daniel Boone under the profession of American Explorers but we are talking about the Historic badge and I think an individual with a HSA should be in a group with a loftier title.  Not a bad idea for a profession but everyone that was an explorerer wouldn't have a HSA

How about 19th Century American Heroes If the group stated to blow up we can break it into something smaller

Tom,

This is my delayed reaction to Paul Bunyan.  HA!

cool

Hi Ed. Are you saying that Daniel Boone was not an important figure in the frontier history of America, or that "Heroes" is a more appropriate term for an HSA group than "Explorers?" I wouldn't mind either myself. Sandi
No I think Daniel was very important.  I was talking about the group name.
Thanks; gotcha. I was a little confuzled.
I think limiting to just the 19th Century excludes too many persons. Daniel Boone, e.g., spent most of his life in the 18th Century. How about American Frontier Explorers with a users group serving as judge of whether a person rose to level of "significant".
This a very old question and no longer relevant as categories have already been created
