I am looking for the Native Line in my Ancestry

Hello,

My father always said that his grandfather was native and by his picture you would swear that.

My father is George Lahaie and his mother's maiden name is Simone Pelletier.Her father is Adrien Pelletier and he is the person my dad is referring to.

The above shows Roman Catholic as religion. Does that make sense for a native? I don't know.

The census shows him as a French chef, which seems unlikely for a native person. The Church did convert and baptize native people, but they are usually identified as such in church records.

When looking for a Native American ancestor the first step is to build your tree back to a time and place where Native Americans were living.  Then you can start looking for Native American records to make the connection.
