Hi Sheldon, can you email your pdf to jamie [at] wikitree.com so I can run some tests?

Hi Sheldon,

It appears that the image is a PDF file and not an image file. There are a number of online sites that you can use to convert it to a jpeg or you can highlight the document and take a snap shot when it is open and paste it into another program for example Powerpoint and then save it as a jpeg. I have used both options and they work.

Hope this helps

Ron, You're correct that you can extract a graphic image from a pdf file in which it is embedded and then save it in an image file format (WikiTree can interpret jpg, png, and gif graphic formats) in order to upload it to WikiTree as an image.

This is not absolutely necessary, however, because WikiTree is capable of handling pdf files, as well, although a bit less elegantly than it does graphic files.  A recent major software modification was made and it appears that this bug (see my answer) is a new one and just needs to be fixed.
Thanks Gaile

It may be that you are getting 'Access Denied' because it didn't upload correctly.  Take a look at its details page and see where it says 'Original digital image: 0 x 0 pixels.'

Ros, I think the problem is introduced by the automatic creation of a link to what would be the full size image, if it were an image file.  Since WikiTree handles pdf files using the same software as for graphic files, now it appears to be creating a link to something that cannot possibly exist - the concept of "full size image" is simply not applicable to a pdf file.

Sheldon, it appears that there is a bug in the WikiTree software that creates both the link at the top of your question and on the icon in your question, although the link is correctly formed in the "Click here for …" link in your question.

That correct link is:

https://www.wikitree.com/photo/pdf/Hamilton-24596-1

Image files that you upload (jpg, png, or gif) are linked to either the image details page or the full size image page.  The link to:

https://www.wikitree.com/photo.php/a/a0/Hamilton-24596-1.pdf

is to a page that does not exist for a pdf file, which would not have a full size image page.

Please edit your question and add the tag:  bugs   so that Jamie's attention will be called to it - she's the one who tracks and fixes these things.
