Do both managers have to approve a merge?

I manage a profile. There is an exact duplicate that is managed by someone else. I have initiated a merge. Do we both need to approve this merge? Should I approve the merge and see if the other manager approves? If I do, will it auto merge after 30 days?

On your proposal: are you sure this is not a child that died young, with a new child getting the same name? As the profile is unsourced, getting a source that shows there has never been a second child with the same name would be the first action (the joy of unsourced profiles...).

Yes, both need to approve. But, when a month has passed without a response of the other manager, the merge becomes public and anyone can complete it.

Thanks Michel. I looked up the help first but decided to ask this to get a clarification from those 'in the know.' I edited the my question just after you answered, asking whether to go ahead and approve it from my side then wait for the other manger to approve or wait the 30 days. I first proposed this merge on 1 Nov, when one was still orphan. I have adopted it today.

For completeness: there is no 'auto merge'. You will be able to see the merge in your menu, check the option ' Pending Merges Initiated by Me'.

If you are a manager of one of the profiles, by initiating the merge you are giving your approval.
