the first open profile of the pedigree would be Sargent-337  my great, great, great, great grand father.

I am not able to edit the privicy and have no choice but to have it open.  I am just looking to keep this profile and it's ancestors intacked. Yess PEDIGREE line is a Big deal with me. I know I shouldn't be looking for trouble where there may not be any....BUT even though I haven't seen or heard from other with this same line, would it hurt to PPP these profiles if I can.

I did check the projects and catagories and came up with two different ones.

ppp without project and potential projects but which one?

Hi Deborah,

Project protection does not necessarily protect the profile from having changes made to it. What it does do is serves as a reminder and notice that the profile in question is being collaborated on by a larger group, and to collaborate with the project before making major changes. To protect a profile, it does need to fit into an existing project or the person needs be considered widely notable but there isn't a project for that type of person yet, and a Leader will need to add the protection. For profiles like your 4th great grandfather, members are generally respectful and will contact the profile manager before making big changes.

Check out the "Communication Before Editing" page for more information about what good communication about profiles should look like.

If I understand the reason for PPP, it is to preserve the spelling of the surname in the event of a future merge. If that is not an issue for your ancestor, I wouldn't worry about it.
