Can I use Born in County Galway as a category for my ancestors? [closed]

Hi. Could you please help me  to understand why I can't add a FLAG, add my ancestor, to a particular category.

The category I would like to have available is:

Born in  COUNTY GALWAY in Ireland or Has Ancestors From County Galway..

Thankyou

Hi Wheels

For categories, we try to place profiles in the narrowest category possible.  There is a location category for County Galway but there are also townland and Parish categories for that county which should be used for birth, marriage and/or death.

There are also stickers for Born in Ireland that may help you accomplish what you want.   Ill send you a private message to see what I can do to help.

Hello Amy. Thankyou. If I tell you what I'm aiming for it might help. I wanted to make it easy for others to locate profiles from the same birthplace as my ancestors.

ie:

a / Woodford ( Townland )

b / Ballynakill

( Woodford is in the Civil Parish of Ballynakill )

c / County Galway

( Ballynakill is in Co Galway)

Note: People get this Ballynakill mixed up with other places in Co Galway and Ireland with the same/similar name.

So would not the category [[Category:Woodford Townland, Ballynakill Parish, Leitrim, County Galway]] work?
Thanks, Mel!  You're right.  The category would be named [[Category:Woodford Townland, Ballynakill Parish, Leitrim, County Galway]] already exists.

Hope that helps Wheels.

Thankyou Melanie. I understand this a little bit better now.

I didn't really realize that the FLAGS were a separate thing to CATEGORIES.

But I looked at the profile page a bit more carefully and I see now.

I appreciate your time.smiley

Thankyou very much Amy. I understand this a little bit better now.

This G2G page is funny, it doesn't show your complete reply to me. The extra bit of explanation in the wiki email from you was helpful.

I hadn't realized that the FLAGS were a separate thing to CATEGORIES.

I appreciate your time too.smiley

I don't think the Irish roots goes as narrow as the county, BUT you can use a descendant sticker for that.

For the basic "has Irish ancestors" you add {{Irish Clans}} below the Biography header.

Ah, thanks again Melanie. I'll go through all my profiles.

Then I'll start adding some of the spouses to the Woodford - Ballynakill - Co Galway category.

Have a great day    smiley
