Do you think there was a mixup on mother’s?

Question

I’m posting my great uncles obituary Kersey-544. It states he is a direct descendent of the signer of the Declaration of Independence by his mother Ann Brereton. I think the newspaper mistook Ann Brereton for My 3rd great grandfathers first wife Hannah Reed who may of died in childbirth 1848 . I need some help sorting this out please. Thank you, Kersey 456
