Marechal Family Tree

Question

I am researching the Marechal Family tree of my great great grandfather Teleforo Marechal. Noting that he was born in America circa 1855. Married in New Zealand 1881 and died circa 1885 presumed drowned at sea. unsure when his parents arrived in America as no names. Rumour has it Teleforo was born at sea?? We are stuck and can not locate any further information. Help appreciated please.
