How to get data on family tree to update?

Question

Have entered data three times to update father of Ada Pate (2428). Date for John Lewis Pate is entered, but will not update on family tree. It will only say, Data is not valid.  My member no is 39998.  Need help !!

I would love to help you, Don, but Ada's profile is set at a privacy level whereby only you and the Trusted List can edit it.

I removed the duplicate text on John Lewis Pate-2438 profile.

There are quite a few sources that can be added to Ada's profile found on family search. 4 different sources can be seen on that page, which confirms that John Lewis Pate is her father, also

I was able to add Ada as a child of John Lewis Pate, and Jaquelyn Howell as a spouse of John Lewis Pate.

I am not sure what the problem was because the dates are on all 3 profiles, just need to add some sources.  All of them have Find a Grave, although Ada doesn't have a Gravestone image attached.

When a profile is private, dates don't show on public view, although they should on private view to anyone on the Trusted List.  I wonder if there was a browser (cache) issue before the unlock.

Since Don was PM and had created the profiles, I am not sure what the problem could be.

There were 2 recent merges of John Lewis profile is the only thing that I can see.  Possibly, Don did the merges in one 'browser window', but in a 'different browser window' with one of the merged away profiles, he was trying to add the child Ada.  Other possibility was he was trying to add one of the merged away Wikitree IDs as father to Ada.

It probably is related to the merges that were done earlier today.

A message saying that data is not valid suggests that someone is trying to enter a non-date in a date field or perhaps too many characters in some other field that has a limit, etc.  Looking at the data that is in there now won't help for this problem - you'd have to know exactly what field Don was trying to enter (or change) and exactly what he was trying to enter in it.
