I can add a father to the profile of James Bearse Jr.. This is who I can add:

  • Bearse-17|James Bearse Sr.

These are the sources I am using: NEHG Register 109: 103-4, 108, 116, 119 "Descendants of Andrew Ford of Weymouth, Massachusetts"

Should I contact one of the pre-1700 projects or know about any style guidelines before proceeding? Thank you!

In view of the various comments on the Bearse-17 and Bearse-350 profiles about questions regarding his parents, and whether he qualifies as a Mayflower descendant (apparently he was recently accepted as a descendant), I would think you should contact the Mayflower project for advice on how to document his parents. It does appear that Bearse-17 is the father of Bearse-350, but the Bearse-17 profile is project-protected, probably due to past disputes over the Mayflower lineage.

JHM:2:21-22 (Blue Book) explains that there is no proof or records of Experience Howland's marriage to James Bearse. This was printed in 1993,2000 and 2004.

MF:24:3:190 states Sarah Holmes m. John Bearse a descendant of John Howland, son of James and Experience (Howland) Bearse.  TAG:83:125. Other sources sited for John & Sarah (Holmes) Bearse: MD:27:25,28. There is also a probate file in Plymouth Co.
