Hi; I have been doing genealogy for about 20 years now. Thanks to a wonderful member of the DAR, I now know who my great-grandmother's siblings are, where her father and mother and step-siblings are buried, and history about my family going back to likely the 1500s. My brick wall is my great-grandfather Bernard Benjamin O'Neill. Different records have him born about 1841 in New York, but the family story is that he came from Ireland, possibly Counties Cork or Kilkenny. I found a match in a musician who came over in 1868 on Star of the West, then another musician who enlisted, same age, same year, 24 Sept, New York. I believe we see him again at Fort Laramie, Wyoming, in 1870. He is discharged from service, according to his military record, in Kentucky. About halfway between Laramie and Kentucky, my great-grandfather married my great-grandmother Martha Simmons, 3 January 1872, in Kansas City, MO, where my Martha was working for the Moore family. Perhaps only DNA will solve this? Any clues welcome.
