Hello Everybody

Lee Copper here from the UK. Me and my family tree have been on and off for many years, but recently I got my DNA done at My Heritage and the results come back very different to what my tree suggests. So the saga continues but if anyone could explain my 50% of my DNA is Scandinavian even though my tree is very firmly placed in the UK.

Hi Lee!  Welcome to WikiTree!

That Scandinavian DNA thing is definitely interesting!  And probably not very accurate.  The companies keep revising the comparison base, as better info becomes available.  Ethnicity results from DNA are more of a parlour game than science...the real usefulness of DNA is supporting the paper trail (or not), and finding new lines, new cousins and new stories.

But meanwhile don't forget about the Danelaw, and also the Orkneys!

I have a much larger tree on Ancestry but only uploaded a small number of relatives so I learn this without messing too much up for everyone else. Parts of my tree goes back to 1100's but a lot of the information has come from other people's trees which at best are suspect in my opinion.

Hopefully, using wiki tree will verify or reject incorrect information

Yes, that's what i do as well.  My Ancestry tree is my sandbox.  When i have all the sources in hand and feel pretty confident about the information, i enter it here on WikiTree.

There are over 200 Copper surnames at WikiTree. You can check them out by going to the Find menu at the top right of this page. Click on Find and then type in the Cooper surname.
