William was born in Ireland and I have no idea where on the island this is more or less for the Irish experts in the group if anyone has ever seen this name or a variant of this name in Ireland I would like to knowthe brick wall in question needs to be solved and cracked by my family also his wife Eleanor is a brick wall her maiden name is Thompson supposedly I have found them in New York records in about 1805 getting married in New York the family's records continue to be interestingly enough in Hampshire Virginia later on indications of this my uncle and others is that either William was indentured or was part of the military forces that came over possibly during the American revolution and he stayed behind

Hi Lisa, I am not savvy with Ireland records, however I noticed you had his name as William and his nickname as William. It is not necessary to fill it out unless he actually has a nickname.
Sorry that it took me a year to get back to you but my problem is that I had lost my password for a while and I switch devices and lost the email password so thank you very

There is a website called Ireland Reaching Out which might be helpful. They have a message board where you can ask questions and people who are willing to locate sources for you. They will probably be able to give you a few ideas on pinnning down the area of origin. Also, if you browse through some Irish genealogy resources, you might be able to pin down his origins more specifically. Some surnames are found in particular areas eg. Terry (Therry) is found in Cork and Waterford. A death record may be helpful as sometimes this states the County of origin (this is common in Australia). Irish records are tricky as the church held early records and these are parish based and few are indexed. Military records are probably worth a look.
