One of the members of our Lane family feels that John Lane, son of Joseph Lane b. 1700 and Patience McKinnie returned to Halifax, NC to write a wll after spending at least 10 years in South Carolina. (See Lane-2468)  My research shows that a John Lane b. 1698, brother to Joseph Lane stayed in Halifax, wrote a will and died there.  John, the son of Joseph Lane and Patience McKinnie moved out of NC by 1755, sold all of this NC property and probably lived the rest of his life (from 1760 on) in South Carolina.

I have written a profile called "Alternative Profile for John Lane (Lane-2468).  I would like to make sure that anyone visiting the first profile can look at my alternative.

Any suggestions for me to do this?  Thanks, Dorothy Coltrin

You should not create a duplicate profile. Any discussion should be contained in a "Research Notes" section on the one profile. Any duplicate profiles will have to be merged.

I can't find the area called "Research notes" at Lane-2468.  Please help.

Hi, Dorothy -- you won't find it if it wasn't already placed there.

You create a Research Notes "section" by placing == Research Notes == above the Sources header, and usually after all the biography text.

(Note that it uses 2 equals signs, not three.)

I can't tell if messages are meant for me or everyone with Lane. I haven't added too many people yet, so I don't think it is for my Lane line
