Merging older profile into new?

Merging Loder-146 into Loder-254 Help

I was trying to do this because I have a ton of info on Loder-254 & there is very little info in the first....

When I tried to merge the older into the new I was told to do it in the OTHER direction... merge into Loder-146.  PLEASE tell me if I do that I will NOT lose all my information from LODER-254??

When you merge, you should always go to the lower number (older profile), unless there is a last name issue.

WHEN you merge, you get to select what is kept from either, or both, of the profiles.

IF something "glitches" and the information/text is not kept, it is not lost.  It will still be findable under the changes log.

Suggestion...before you merge, copy all your work from the bio you want to save (do it in edit mode so all your formatting will be copied) and save it in a word document. Then, if for some strange reason you can't retrieve it on WikiTree after the merge, you have it available to just paste back in to the merged profile. I do it every time. I've never needed it, but it does make me feel more comfortable about completing the merge.
Thanks, it DID work! but I have another comment. When I ask this question I was expecting to be taken to some old answers.... It didn't, so I asked & immediately AFTER asking this simple question.... I got older comments which I SHOULD have been able to read by myself. Where should I have looked?
Thanks, I did that & it DOES make you feel better!
It is a quirk of g2g that previous similar questions don't show up until AFTER you post yours.  I think finding the "just right" keyword for searching isn't all that easy.  (I wouldn't worry about duplicating questions, as sometimes the answers have changed over time.)
