Question on this merge

I have a question about a merge of two John Floyds. (Floyd-1442 and Floyd-3138)  I would like for Liz Shifflett to take a look because it involves (sideways) the Fisher line into Magna Carta and early Jamestowne characters.

I have posted the information (not all, but a lot) on John Fisher-3138 but have intentionally not connected him to any other Floyd "father" - particularly Nathaniel, as that has simply not been proved.

If there is a merge, i would not want John connected to Nathaniel.  This would be nice because he's an early jamestowne sort of fella....but wishful thinking genealogy really annoys me.

Take a look and say what you think. I left a note at the bottom of the bio.  I think a disconnect with a note to researchers:  "try to prove a relationship to Nathaniel" and THEN hook them up, rather than a connection with a caveat they may not be related at all.

I'll put a tag of Magna Carta so Liz Shifflett will see this.

These pre-1700 profiles need better sources before anything can be said one way or another, but it certainly looks like the two John Floyd profiles are intended to represent the same person, having the same dates/same wife (whose profiles need to be merged also).

I would recommend proceeding with the merge & keeping Nicholas as father - in the absence of sources, mark the relationship as uncertain.

There is no Floyd/Floid, John or Nathaniel listed as a Qualifying Ancestor by the Jamestowne Society.  The US Southern Colonies Project is working on a Reliable Sources page that might help you research them:

Good luck!
Liz

P.S. There is no mention of any Floyd in Richardson's Magna Carta Ancestry. The Magna Carta Project covers to the Gateway, so I'm afraid Magna Carta Project Reliable Sources won't be any help with info about a granddaughter of a Gateway.

Sorry, I guess I stated the names and relationships more clearly on John's site.

This John Floyd's son, Charles Floyd, married Elizabeth Fisher....gr-granddau of John Fisher....he's the MC gateway ancestor involved with the Floyds.

The man they keep connecting John to is Nathaniel Floyd - sometimes written Flood/Floid or even as Nathaniel Loyd. He arrived in the Bona Nova circa 1618-19 and was probably an indentured servant of Edward Blaney of Blaneys Plant, James City.

He later received 850 acres in Northampton and Accomac, patented on November 20, 1637 via headrights for transporting seventeen people.  He is on the 1623 list as Nathaniel Loyd but is almost always written as Floyd.

There just isn't any evidence that this early Nathaniel fellow is in any way related to John Floyd.  So if I agree to the merger, can I request the two men - John and Nathaniel - not be connected as father and son?  There just isn't any proof. They're not connected on one profile but are on the other.
Anne Stevens has Nathaniel as a passenger on the Bona Nova - https://www.packrat-pro.com/ships/bonanova.htm

talk to the manager of Nathaniel's profile - mutual agreement, leave him off in merge.
