Dear Kay,

I'm somewhat confused by your proposal.

There are other Thomas Martins in my tree, but Martin-62321 is ME!

Gumby (Martin-3796), who I don't recognize at all, was over 200 years old when I was born.

Could you please give me some guidance?

You may have misread the merge proposal. It is for Martin-62417 and Martin-3796 which were both born in 1749.
For a new member, it is possible to be a little confused when you get a notification for a merge proposal because you are Profile Manager for one of the profiles.  Perhaps this is what happened here.
Patricia Roche, I don't know what you were reading but the merge that I am reading is between Martin-3796 (b.1749) with Martin-62321 (b.1955), seems very clear to me, I think it looks like you have misread it completely as I do not see where you get the Martin-62417 from TH Martins question
William: the merge has been completed by T H Martin.  It was done yesterday.
William - my assessment of the problem was from reviewing the recent activity for both TH Martin and Kay Wilson, then looking at the changes to the profiles Martin-62417 and Martin-3796.  This revealed that there had been no merge request by Kay,  for Martin-62361 and Martin-3796. So I concluded that, knowing how confusing the email notification that gets sent when a merge is proposed, that TH Martin had misunderstood the email.  The activity feed for Kay only lists one merge proposal involving Martin-3796, and that was for merging with Martin-62417.  TH Martin has completed the merge for those profiles and the problem is resolved. I apologize for getting involved.
After trying to replicate my error on Kay's merge proposal, I think the problem lies with "auto-complete" in my browser.

I didn't notice that my system thought I really wanted my ID from its memory. I hope that settles this issue, so we can move on to newer and bigger things. Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions. This is a really, really great group!

The merge that was proposed was between Martin-3796 and Martin-62417, not between profiles that are 200 years apart.  In fact, I would guess they really are the same person.
