I have done genealogical research since 1978, I keep updating my research tree with the assistance of my cousins and from my own research, I have extracted a large number of Parish Registry records for members of my tree, and I have accumulated a large number of photograph, my research contains the full descendance of my grand parents.

I would like to know how to best share the results of my work here!

Hi Langis Gagnon - I'm in a similar situation, new here - but many years of verified and sourced research.  I would also like to know how best to add and share this information?

I'm finding "others" are kindly verifying and adding info to my ancestors, before I have a chance to complete and add my research.

Hi Langis and Anonymous,

As others have mentioned and as I'm sure you did when you started your research years ago, the best way to start is with yourself and work backward. The difference now is that you have done all the research and are using WikiTree to share it.

There are a couple of fast ways that you can avoid the "help" that Anonymous mentioned:

  • Add citations to the sources you used when determining facts and relationships. Sourced profiles are one of the things which set WikiTree apart from many online trees and the Sourcerers love to help find them.
  • Check your Suggestions List often to fix any inconsistencies yourself before the Data Doctors get to them.

As you add profiles, it is possible that you will quickly find an existing profile for your ancestor and not have to create new profiles. I found that six of my sixteen 2xgreat-grandparents already had profiles and was quickly able to find research buddies on those lines.

Please do ask your Greeter if you have any questions on how to use the site. If you would like to create well-rounded profiles from the start, you might be interested in the Profile Improvement Project (PIP) Voyage. You can read more about it in their G2G Registration thread.

You might start posting your family tree with parents, grandparents, great grandparents and so on.

Consider looking over the list of other individuals with the Gagnon surname. There are over 4,000 at WikiTee. To see them, you can go up to the top right of WikiTree page to where it has the word "Find." Click on it and enter the Gagnon surname where you see "Surnames" on the Find menu.

My in-laws have an ancestor, Marie Anne Gagnon, who married Pierre Landry.

I have over 6000 individuals in my tree, I cannot see myself recreating it from scratch here!

If you start building your family tree then you can add the photos to the profiles for which they pertain. You will just need to add in the box when you upload, the general information where you received the information. Such as "State Department of Vital Statistics", or something like that and then add that it is in the possession of 'your name'.

That tells others basically where you got the information/photo, that you have a copy, and the image is provided so they can view it.

If it is something like a marriage license that you will use for two profiles there is a way to do that without uploading it twice. A census that you can add to all the family members listed can be connected after being uploaded once.

Some of these have other links at the bottom of the page.

I hope that helps.

The best way is working backward from yourself creating profiles and adding the sources, photos from all your work it takes time but it is one way of preserving all your years of hard work for future generations of cousins. Eventually, you will find points where you connect your ancestors to the common tree. I know you know after 40+ years of work genealogy work is never done.

Welcome

I live now in Winchester, VA, and worked disaster assistance for FEMA, from 2004 through 2115. We had a fellow with us at that time named Jill Gagnon, who had a child and was maybe in her mid 30's, not sure where she lived. This may help. I had a branch who came from Perche / Mid-Loire area with the moves to Quebec and surrounding area before moving on. Check my wiki, Rasmussen-3875, or my Heritage Tree Builder, ++
