The baptism date on the profile of John Whinham needs clarification – see the baptism note in the bio.

Any member with access to Northumberland baptism records to clarify would be appreciated.

It’s not unusual for slight differences in date to appear in death or census records. Especially if they were illiterate. Death record info is often given by younger generations who sometimes just have a stab at dates. ancestry has this

Name: John Whinham
Gender: Male
Birth Date: 3 Aug 1801
Birth Place: Harbottle-NC,Harbottle,Northumberland,England
Father: Robert Whinham
Mother: Jane
FHL Film Number: 87979

Source Information

Ancestry.com. England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 2014.

Thankyou Marion - that agrees with FS and I will add a research note re the Obituary article - cheers Roger

The fact that "England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975" on Ancestry agrees with FamilySearch is not actually independent confirmation, as Ancestry got that collection directly from FamilySearch. The next line on that record after the Source Information says "Original data: England, Births and Christenings, 1538-1975. Salt Lake City, Utah: FamilySearch, 2013."

Many citations from FS refer to a parish register or other documentation. This one does not.

This doesn't mean the obituary is correct, though. Often, people in earlier times just didn't know exactly when they were born.

I hope someone comes up with the parish register, but as the profile is now, the estimated date is possibly the best answer.
