** Tilda Vance Marcum (1894-1977) was my friend's Grandmother....Tilda Vance Marcum, born 4 July 1894, died March 1977 in Mount Gay,
Logan, West Virginia.  Tilda Vance Marcum was the daughter of Marion and
Rebecca Vance.  She was the wife of Moses Mose Marcum, who was the son
of Andrew Jackson Marcum and Sarah J Vance.

Abner Vance JR. (1750s - 1819)
One of Abner's daughters (and it is thought to have been Elizabeth) ran
off with Lewis HORTON. After several months Lewis Horton returned with
the girl and dropped her off at her parent's home. It is said that Abner
and Susannah pleaded with Lewis to marry the girl. He refused and
turned to ride away. Abner went into the house and returned with his gun
and shot Horton as he was riding away. Horton died a few hours later.

I know tilda vance marcum, she was my grandmother too. her father was marion vance. I knew he married a rebecca but didn't know her last name. thought it was hatfield. grandma said she was anderson hatfields granddaughter. Tilda had several children: brady, ethel, homer, goldie, rose, shirley, june. Which one is your friend's parent. I knew them all except for brady. only met ethel once. knew goldie's children, rose's children, june's children, homer's children. brady and  ethel never had children as far as I know.

Assuming that have this correct....Nancy A. Vance Hatfield (1813-95) was the daughter of Elizebeth S. Vance(1794-1850) who was the daughter of Abner Vance (1750-1819)....Your ancestor Richard Vance (1792-1865) was Elizebeth's brother....Nancy being the Mother of Anderson Hatfield and Elizabeth his Grandmother .
