How do I research a homicide

I've recently discovered that my grandfather's cousin was murdered in 1980.  I found her death certificate that confirms this.  How do I research to try to find out what happened to her and why?  Her profile is Rich-5715.

I'll be interested in any answers you get to this question. I have a cousin who was murdered by his ex-wife in the 1980s and I've never been able to find anything on that one other than family stories.
Have you tried newspaper reports?
I have Genealogy Bank and I did check there but was unable to find anything.  The location is in another state so I can't travel there to peruse their newspapers in person.  I research when I have time because I still work full time.
Thank you, Amy, for providing a source for that newspaper clipping. Please add that it was found at newspapers.com. That should be included to avoid copyright you have to give them credit in the comment on the photo where you sourced it.

What a very sad story that is. Nice job on her profile.
I will certainly do that.  Thank you for the help.  I didn't think of that.
You are welcome :)

OMG! How did you find this so quickly?  That is amazing! Thank you so much!!!! heart  After reading this article, it's so sad how all this happened.  It's stories like this that show me that genealogy isn't about just records and dead people, but that it's also about real people who lived and were loved dearly.  I hope to keep Hazel's memory alive.

This website https://murderpedia.org/usa/north-carolina.htm may be helpful as well.

I use newspapers.com alot and have gotten pretty fast with it.

That was an interesting story with Hazel.
Yes, you are very fast.  It's definitely interesting and very sad.

You probably should include the reference to the newspaper

Thank you!
The citation for the newspaper is on the link.  That's how newspapers.com works.
I think it should also be imbedded in the photo’s information.
Nevermind
