Potentially corrupt database entry

Hi,
Not certain where to direct this, Clere-3 (Robert Clere Knt) seems to be partially merged with his father Clere-4 (Robert Clere Esq).

If you click the link to his father, it keeps showing Clere-3. It also has his mother being married to him. Yet clicking the mother only shows RC Knt as both husband and son. No mention of RC Esq

Thanks

I don't know what causes this, but it pops up every now and then. Clere-4 was merged into Clere-3 a couple of years ago, but for some reason it still appears as Clere-4 in the father link. The solution is to disconnect the problematic connection (in this case removing Clere-4 as the father of Clere-3). I'll do that now.

The only problem now is that he has no father; if there isn't an existing profile for the father, he'll have to be recreated.

I think I did it as the same time as you LIanne, I'll keep away and let you finish it.
Thank you Lianne and Vincent... some changes appear to have taken place, mainly in Elizabeth Uvedale's page. However the problem still exists with opening the Clere-4 page diverting to Clere-3.

I might try and fix this tonight (currently mid afternoon here)

* Dig up whatever informaiton I can find on Clere-4 and create a new profile for him
* Replace Clere-4 as father of Clere-3 and husband of Uvedale-1 with new page.
Clere-4 redirecting to Clere-3 is not a problem; that's what happens when one profile is merged into another. So, the ID Clere-4 should not be used anymore. When a new profile is created for the father he'll have a new ID.
Woohoo, after gathering some information about who Clere-4 should be, I actually found Clere-14 on WikiTree.

It has some duplicates, but will set up Merge requests to get this issue solved

Thanks for all who replied

Two things, Robert:

First, please edit your question and change the category from "Genealogy Help" to "WikiTree Tech".  Also type:   arborists    in the tag space.  That will get the attention of the right people to deal with this as quickly as possible.

Second, although I can't help either to answer your question or to try to find and solve the problem, there is one more thing you can do - if nothing more, than out of curiosity.  Where you said "if you click the link to the father ...." please hover your mouse over the link to the father without clicking and look at the bottom left corner of your browser window - you will see the WikiTree ID of the person the link is going to take you to without having to actually go there.  In this case, that is probbly going to show Clere-3.

From what you're saying, I agree with your assessment that some kind of merge was incorrectly done in the past, but it will take an arborist to know the best way to fix it.

Good Luck!

Hi Gaile, thanks for the advice for this and future questions of this type. When you hover over the link to the father, it shows Clere-4 as the target of the link as per my original post. But when attempting to load it, it loads Clere-3, even if you manually enter the URL in the browser address bar.

Lianne has also replied with additional info and there's only one real way to correct the situation

Go to love database corruptions (I've been in large scale through small scale IT operations for nearly 30 years and seen way more weird things than I care to recall) :D
Lianne is incredible at figuring out this stuff - I'm so glad you're now in her eminently capable hands!  I see Vincent also came along on his shining white horse - he's another miracle worker here.  When either of those two go into action, I stand by and watch, trying to learn from them.

Your answer about the target of the link being Clere-4, yet taking you to the Clere-3 page is confirmation of what seemed the most likely explanation - that a merge took place - Clere-4 is being redirected to Clere-3.
