Origins of Frank Cormier and Mary (Breau) Cormier of Cocagne

I am searching for the origins of Frank Cormier and Mary (Breau) Cormier of Cocagne, New Brunswick who are my 3rd great grandparents.  They are referenced on the death certificate of of my 2nd great-grandmother [[Cormier-3433|Angelique (Cormier) Melanson]].

I'm only getting into the Acadian side of my family.  I have a number of other Acadian lines which are well researched.  This one dead ends.  One of the challenges I've had with my Acadian research so far is that many people in the same family have similar names.  They often used Joseph for boys and Mary for girls, as was common and sometimes still is in Roman Catholic families.

I do not have access to Ancestry of GenealogieQuebec which are the keepers of the Drouin Collection.  I suspect the marriage of Frank (Francois?) Cormier and Mary Breau may exist in that collection as it catalogues a good number of the church records.

If anyone can assist, I would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Matthew Evans

This could be a start. Found a transcription of a marriage record on 23 November 1857 in the Grand-Digue register, although they were both from Cocagne. https://heritage.canadiana.ca/view/oocihm.lac_reel_c3017/281?r=0&s=2  Will look for census records in Ancestry to make sure it’s the right couple.

Really interesting.  I've never seen this source for parish registers before.  Grande-Digue is "down the road" from Cocagne.  I live not far from both and drive through both often.  Thanks for this.

I've also never seen this particular spelling or Breau (Brault)  So many different spellings of that surname.  I'll add to that the list!

Let me know if you find anything else and I appreciate your searching.

Census records found in Ancestry were very helpful. I am pretty sure that Frank’s parents are Joseph Cormier and Angélique Surette. I added the 1861 census to Joseph’s profile which shows that Frank was living in his parents’ home, with his wife Marie and  their 3 children Domithilde, Fabien and Angélique who was not yet 1 year old. Even though her death certificate says she was born in 1858, most  censuses indicate 1861 and corresponds to the children’s birth order. I couldn’t find her baptism record though.

Marie Breau’s parents would be Georges Breau and Adélaïde Bourque.

Is it okay if I add censuses to Angélique’s profile? I will send you more information by email.

Absolutely.  Feel free to add anything you like.  I can clean up format later on. I very much appreciate your research.  This is a great collaborative community.
