I am wondering if anyone would be willing to help me with the research for Emil? There are a few words visible on his gravestone which indicate he must have been a veteran.

On 29 Dec 2020 Angeline Gallant wrote on Heyse-44:

Emil Heyse was a prisoner of war during WWI. He died from valvular disease of the heart while interned at Fort Henry.

Another memorial for Emil is in the Woodland Cemetery in Kitchener. Men of German descendant who died while interned in Canada during WWI and WWII were moved to Kitchener, however cemetery records show Emil was not removed from Cataraqui.

On Nov. 6, 1893, Rev. Val Czyzewski, Rector of St. Hedwig Catholic Church in South Bend, Indiana, married Emil Heyse and Anna Lewandowski.

According to the 1900 and 1920 census records of South Bend, Emil Heyse, a cabinet maker at the Singer Manufacturing Co., and his wife Anna, both born in German Poland, had immigrated in 1893.

The census records together with Indiana death certificates and St. Hedwig Catholic Church records indicate that the children of Emil and Anna Heyse included (in birth order): Wanda (aka Mandy), George, twins Klara and Zofia who both died young, Gertrude, Edmund, and Leocadia who died young.

Emil Heyse died in 1916 of tuberculosis and was interred in the South Bend City Cemetery.

Anna died in 1935 and was interred in the South Bend City Cemetery.
