How do I get a name/initials to show correctly on Public view?

+3 votes
I just created my deceased fathers profile. He had 3 given names but always used the 3rd name. I put First as John, Preferred First as Doug and Middle Name(s) as Arthur Douglas. I'd like his profile to show as J.A. Douglas Jones but it shows up as Doug A. Jones - the J does not even appear. Is there a way to do this? Thanks

Mary, it's unfortunate, but we sometimes have to go to great lengths to make names display the way we want in one particular place, but they may show up differently in other places.  Here's how you can set the name fields up to display what you want, but I warn you that you may be very unhappy with how they display in other places and/or it may interfere with the ability to find the profile when someone enters a first name to search for it:

Enter J A Douglas (you probably can't put periods in the first name field) as Formal First Name and don't worry about the rest of the first or middle name fields.

You will probably get Suggestions generated based on Gaile's recommendations, but you can mark them as False.  I would also add something to the Biography stating why you have set the name fields like that, so that hopefully others don't adjust them to wikitree Standards.

After changing the fields, you probably have to wait a day or so to try searching for that person with the different names to see if that profile will come up during a regular Search so that duplicates are avoided.
Currently nobody else can "adjust" anything on the profile, as it is privacy locked.
