The Ancestry of Europe's Royal and Princely Houses: Work in Progress

Dear all,

For a while now, I've posted periodic updates on the health of that part of the global tree occupied by the European higher nobility.  I'm pleased to say that this is now newly updated and permanently available at the free space page below.  I hope it will prove useful and would be delighted if it even sparked some friendly competition to complete those portions of the tree which remain to be done.  As always, I'd be glad to hear comments, suggestions, etc.

All the best,

Kelsey

It seems rather silly to exclude the current monarch. Sure, their are alive and a silly rule (its silly for monarchs!) prevents listing them. BUT ... it would be trivial to list all of their desceased ancestors in such a list.
I agree with you James, but it's largely a question of practicality.  Since the profiles of living monarchs are inaccessible to us (if they even exist), it made more sense to begin from the most recently deceased monarch instead.  We could, as you say, reconstruct the 2,048 ancestors via an individual's parents' or grandparents' profiles but that's accordingly more effort and it takes a good hour or so just to fully update the list we have!

origin-dna.us may prove useful to some people who are investigating royal Y-DNA ancestry.

Nice job, Kelsey!  Kudos to you, and I hope it indeed sparks interest for people to research some of the people missing ancestors.

Excellent work, Kelsey. I have to admit that the Jacobite statement was a pleasant surprise.

Thanks, Pip!  I thought people might enjoy the Jacobite option.

I better sourced Christiane Wilhelmine zu Solms-Rödelheim. In the Hessian Biography are named her parents, but without dates. And I also had a look for the parents of Milena Vukotić, but I didn't find anything of use for them.

Thanks, Jelena!  Vukotić and the other Balkan profiles will be some of the hardest nuts to crack here.  I think there may be sources that would allow us to push these lines further back, but I'm not familiar enough with the region to be sure.

I've taken the opportunity of a bit of holiday time to add some new entries for:

* Bavaria

* The Legitimist and Bonapartist claimants to the French throne

* The Miguelist (and now only) claimant to the Portuguese throne

* Saxony

* The Two Sicilies (both disputed lines of succession)

* Württemberg

Enjoy!

All the best,

Kelsey

Hi Kelsey,

Great job on the 'Work in Progress.' I will try to turn my attention to Germany and England in the next month. Thanks for all your organizing!

Hi Kelsey

I also want to extend my thanks for doing this, it's a great addition to the genealogy of European royal/noble families.  I always find how often the same names crop up in different royal families a bit troubling, but then again it's all those inter-connections that I've always found fascinating.

I have found some sources for the Dohna family but haven't yet had time to add any ancestors and also have the L'Allemagne Dynastique volume for the Schwarzburg family but again haven't yet had time.  Hopefully by the weekend I can extend those two back a bit further.
