William Wood of Concord, who died there 1671, is listed in Anderson's Great Migration Directory (GMD 383 #4) as having arrived 1639, origin unknown. It lists these sources:
William Wood of Concord is also referenced in the Great Migration profile of Henry Flint (1635; GM2:536-7 and GMD 117): Henry's brother, Thomas Flint (1637; GMD 117), names "my uncle Willm. Wood of [Concord]" as an overseer in his 1651 will. Anderson accepts Matlock, Derbyshire, as the origin for both Flint brothers, and cites two further sources:
- NEHGR 14:58-59, a Flint genealogy including a transcript of Thomas Flint's will.
- NEHGR 56:312-18, a study of Flint and Wood/is wills in Derbyshire.
None of these sources provides any English records for William Wood himself, nor for William's wife, Margaret, who died in Concord in 1659. None of these sources indicates a birth name for Margaret.
There exists a marriage record, 9 Aug 1612 at All Saints Church, South Wingfield, Derbyshire, for Gulielmus Wood and Margreta Gibbens. Is this the marriage of William Wood of Concord and his wife Margaret? It looks possible, but how do we know for sure?
