A bit more: I wondered how my two closest connections were connected.  George Bush is almost a direct descendant of Pocahontas.  His 6th great-grandfather was the half brother of her great-grandson.

I looked for a shorter path to Auguste Bartholdi before this morning's update, and managed to shave off 19 or 20 degrees (I think) making him my closest connection at 17 degrees. This new connection appears to shorten the path of most connected members to Bartholdi by 4 to 8 steps. I hope to improve it a bit more, time permitting, later this week.

Second closest is, surprisingly, Pocahontas. I haven't cheched the whole path, but it goes through Mr Rolfe's brother - a good sign?

Another short-cut added for Bartholdi and he is now a few more steps closer, at about 30-34 steps from most people I checked (my own connection has not changed). That brings him closer to the center than Einstein, for instance.
