Michele....in connection with the answer that I suggested on your other ancestor Bridgett Foley, I note that there was a marriage between James McElgunn and a Bridget Foley in the same church where Bridget was baptised.....It sure looks like James and Bridget were Canadian...married there then came to the US in 1868.  Given that these two were married in Canada, which agrees with the US census data and Bridgets parents last names were Foley(of course) and Candy on her baptisimal record, I think this couple is a good candidate.
Marriage Year :1864
Groom James McElgon (McElgunn)
Bride: Bridget Foley
Church:St-Édouard
Location: Framption, Quebec Canada

Thank you Michael Tomasik, You are wonderful, I am so excited to show this info to my father. I know he and his living siblings will love to see this. I really don't know how you do this but to me you are amazing!

Thanks Again, Michele "Gunn" Mitchell
Michael Tomasik, I just received a 23andme.com DNA kit, If I submit my results on this site would that help with finding my relatives? And does this work with your site? I saw something on DNA somewhere on this site.

Thanks

Michele
Michele....glad you found this useful.  Keep in mind these are a couple of good clues and might make a lot of sense for your family...but they will need more research to "dot the I's and cross he T's" before you can be absolutely sure that these are your relatives. Michael
Michele...I've been doing this type of research fore about 20 years but have little information about how DNA on this web site can be helpful....probably you could get some answers on that by reposting your question.   Michel
Hi Michele, I too am a descendant of this Gunn family.  James and Bridget are my 2nd gr. grandparents.  I am a descenant through their son, John Joseph.  Please email me and we can exchange info.  I have not yet uploaded my gedcom as I am correcting  info but I am delighted to share.
