Welsh Monastic Houses

For those few of you who might be interested, in addition to the work on Welsh Castles and Historic Houses, we have started work on Welsh Monastic Houses. This includes Abbeys and Priories.

The first on to be done is Cymer Abbey, founded by Hywel, Lord of Merioneth, and granted its charter in 1209 by Llewelyn the Great.

Awesome.  I'd love it if you'd put Valle Crucis Abbey, near Llangollen, on your list!

Just done, Jack.

I'm working out how to include The Pillar of Eliseg as a sub-cat, as it has so much information associated with it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pillar_of_Eliseg

Shouldn't the Pillar of Eliseg have a category of its own?  It had been there for several hundred years when the Abbey was started nearby, but they're separate sites and events and involve separate people.

Of course, the Pillar of Eliseg is neither an abbey nor a castle, so it may need an over-category of its own as well!  If you had a category for monuments, it could end up including every gravestone in Wales, so that could require some thought as well!
You’re so right, Jack. I’m giving it a big lump of thinking about!
I discover there was an old "Valle Crucis Abbey" category and I moved the profiles from there to the new "Vale Crucis Abbey, Denbighshire" category.  The old one is now ready to be retired.
Wow, thanks Jack.
I have just put it in under Category:Wales, Buildings for the time being.

How about Llanthony Priory in Monmouthshire? Plenty of history, ancient and modern!
